- I've been drawing and painting since I was 3. My first painting was an oil on canvas of some fruit we had in the house. I was 8 years old and my sister showed me how to stretch the canvas and complete the still life. I come from a long line of artists and artisans. My great Uncle, Joseph Reidsema, who was an artist in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s in Michigan and California. He was a plein aire painter of landscapes, seascapes and portraits. My Grandfather, Roy was also an artist and my mother , Doris, paints as well, she just turned 90. She stopped when I was starting to get into her paints and picked it up again last year. My Grandmother on my Fathers side showed me some of her work when I was a little girl. I remember it to be very good. My sister paints as you might have guessed from my earlier comment. Her page is www.KayCrain.com. I have two boys, one 23, he paints surrealism. His name is Nick Doll. My youngest, Kyle 15, loves to work with clay.
