My first painting was an oil on canvas of some fruit we had in the house. I was 8 years old and my sister, who paints as well(kaycrain.com) showed me how to stretch the canvas and complete the still life. I come from a long line of artists and artisans. My great Uncle, Joseph Reidsema, was an artist in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s in Michigan and California. He was a plein air painter (painting outside) of landscapes, seascapes and portraits. My Grandfather on my Mothers side who was color blind, my mother , and my Grandmother on my fathers side painted as well. My Mother started in her early 40's then stopped when I was starting to get into her paints at about 46 but started again at 89. She passed away at 91, I got to paint with her 2 weeks before she died. I have two boys, my oldest paints surrealism but right now is too busy in Dental school. My youngest, 18, loves to work with clay. He also has a unique talent with wire, he shows great potential. I am married to a wonderful man, together we own and operate the embroidery shop. creativeembroiderybranson.com

Not bad after a forty year hiatus. She was 90 when she painted this. Click on the picture to see her other paintings. I am very proud of her. She left this world in February 2009.
